[GiDlist] Error in constructor

Hello GiD team,

After reading the Post.Res file of my model, when I want do display the Deformation, I obtain the following error:

Error: Error in constructor: domain error: argument not in valid range.

Everything was working well, I have interpreted the results, and this error occured suddenly, and I don’t know the reason. I have attached the post.res file, as well as error.log file. Any help would be very useful. It is now happening with all my models.

Thanks in advance,
M.Marjanovic

Please, in general not attach only the result file, the mesh is also
necessary to open in.

I don’t know what or when is happening the error, in any case it seems that
the problem is because GiD is suggesting an scale factor for the
deformation=0

and then the slidebar showed from the icons toolbar is created with
resolution=0 and the error is raised.

We have fixed the code for next developer version 11.1.7d (available soon)
to avoid the error also if this case happen.

Is GiD crashing always, e.g. meshing a square of 1x1, or only with some
model?

Then send us the model.

You can also try a more recent version: the last official is v 11.0.5, and
the last developer is v 11.1.6d

gracias

Hi Rogelio,

This list is to answer questions about GiD itself, not to answer questions
of problemtypes,

and it is better if possible to do it in English, to share the information
with more people.

Probably you don’t know well as user the difference between GiD and a
problemtype.

GiD doesn’t has any solver included, like the ‘structural solver’ that you
talk about.

A problemtype is like a plugin, developed by other people, that provide a
calculation programs and its interface with GiD.

Only the people that develop each problemtype could ask questions about
what his program does !!

Which is the problemtype used in your case? Ramseries/RamSolid(CompassFEM)?
Kratos? Another?

The answer depends on each case.

If you are using RamSeries , to apply self-weight:

1-you must set the gravity direction (default –Z)

2-You must define a material and set its ‘specific weigth’ or use some
predefined material, and assign this material to the group of entities made
of them.

3-In some loadcase you must apply a ‘self-weight load’ to a group of
entities (e.g. a group of all volumes for a solid simulation)

Then, after generate the mesh and calculate you could see its results.
CompassFEM has two kinds of postprocess tools: the ‘GiD standard
postprocess’ and ‘its own postprocess’.

I think that in both cases you can see the reactions (where you applied
displacement restrictions) drawn as vectors, listing its values, etc. and
this program add some extra tool to select a collection of restricted nodes
and sum its vector forces (to check that the equilibrium is matched)

Regards

Dear Sir,

I have four curves on a unit sphere.
When I used “Create NURBS surface” to create a surface bounded by the four
curves,
I expected a surface on a surface but it doesn’t seem to be a part of
sphere..
Is it possible to create a spherical surface when the four bounding curves
are on a sphere?

Thanks,
Seungil.

If you create a surface defined only ‘by its boundary lines’ then the shape
of the surface must match these lines, but the inner shape is freely created
(by a kind of coons or bicubical interpolation). It shape won’t necessarily
be what you are expecting, e.g. won’t be spherical

You can create a perfect spherical surface by revolution with extrusion
(copy tool),

but you must know its revolution axis (two coordinates to define it), and
have some curve on the surface to be extruded (e.g. an arc)

If the ‘full surface’ doesn’t has the required lines as boundary, then you
can create a trimmed surface, trimming the ‘base surface’ with its boundary
lines.

Thank you for your reply.

Actually, what I would like to do is to make a volume
which is obtained by cutting a pyramid with a sphere centered at a vertex
of the pyramid.
So the five sides of the volume are on planes but one is a spherical
surface.
I tried to use the copy tool but the rotation of a curve on the sphere
could not produce the full spherical surface..
Is there an easy way to construct that kind of volume?

Thank you,
Seungil.

I think that the easiest way is to create a volume of the pyramid, then
create a sphere centered at its vertex (Geometry-Create-Object-Sphere)

and then do a Boolean operation to have its intersection volume
(Geometry-Edit-Volume Boolean op-Intersection) and select both volumes.

I have a problem type which displayed OK in gid 7 and gid 9 but now the images wont display properly, Can I send the problem type to somebody rather than posting it ti the group?

I’m evaluating GiD 11 (used ver 7 & 9 for many years) where the type of geometry I will be dealing with is complex with multiple bodies created in solidworks. there will be many surfaces that overlay one another most likely only parts of the 2 surfaces are common, is there a way of pre-processing them in gid where features on each of the surfaces intersect both surfaces and leave only 1 common surface between 2 bodies. I could do this manually either in solidworks by splitting the surfaces or in GiD but would prefer an automatic method?

So that when I mesh I get a matching mesh at the common surfaces?

I use COMSOL and this recognises common faces with any detail on them being imposed on the common face with no duplicate surfaces, I’d like to be able to do the same in GiD if possible?

Hi Mark,
Send me the problemtype to my email adress amelendo at cimne.upc.edu , I
will take a look to your images problem.

Regarding overlay surfaces, GiD have the option
Geometry-Edit-Collapse-Model within a tolerance.

I misunderstood Mark 's surface problem
Here is an example (2 independent boxes):

Solution for easy geometries goes trough:
First: Geometry-Edit-Intersection-Surfaces, 1:end
And after: Geometry-Edit-Collapse-Model within a appropriate tolerance.
If this actions are commonly used, you can do a macro to execute
automatically all steps of this process:
http://www.gidhome.com/component/manual/referencemanual/general_aspects/utilities_menu/tools/macros

(easy geometries = intersection it’s well defined)

Adrià
