[GiDlist] GiD 11 64bit cannot deal with generation of struct

HAPPY NEW YEAR, GiD team,

I am facing a problem of GiD 11 64bit.
If I want to generate a structured hexahedra mesh for a
simple rectangular solid, GiD 11 64bit cannot deal with
this instructions.

For a simple 6 sided rectangular solid, my experience was
that GiD 10 32bit demo version deals well but GiD 11 64 bit
version encounters a problem.

What I did was:
MeshStructuredVolumesAssign numbe of cells
Then select the rectangular solid.
“Enter number of cells to assign to lines”:2
MeshGenerate Mesh
“Enter size of elements to be generated”:1.1 (was default)

Result message box of 32bit demo version of GiD 10 is saying
Mesh generated.
Num. of Hexahedra elements=8
Num. of nodes=27
It is GOOD.

However, GiD 11 64 bit version encounters a problem.
Result message box is saying for the same processing,
Mesh generated.
Num. of Tetrahedra elements=192
Num. of nodes=71
It is BAD.

I believe this is a bug of GiD 11 64bit.
Please fix this problem.

I’m on Windows 8 Pro 64bit with 32 Gbytes RAM and using GiD 11.0.6 x64.

Hello Hemmi,

Really this is not a bug, it is a behavior change from GiD 10.x to GiD 11.x
to be more consistent (an avoid other problems of mesh compatibilities
between neighbor entities)
Now by default all volumes by default are meshes with tetrahedral (and all
surfaces with triangles) also if the mesh is structured!!

In order to have hexahedra user must now explicitly set it to the wanted
volumes with
Mesh-Element type-Hexahedra

In general we try to avoid changes like this, that are not ‘back
compatible’, but in this case we thought that this behavior change was
compulsory.

Hello, GiD team,

An IGES file (panhteon.igs) downloaded from the web site
http://adventure.sys.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/software/samples.html
causes a crash of GiD 11 64bit when generating mesh.
Please fix this problem.
